Lackon provided the Project Director role for the comprehensive planning, design, and construction of road upgrades extending from Cairns CBD’s Comport and Draper Streets to the intersection of the Captain Cook and Kennedy Highways, including Mount Millman Drive in Smithfield. These upgrades were strategically designed to alleviate congestion and enhance connectivity between key regional hubs. Early works also commenced on the section of the Captain Cook Highway from Airport Avenue to James Street, with plans to potentially add an extra lane between Moffat Street and Lily Street, close certain median breaks, and upgrade intersections and public transport arrangements. The primary goals of this project were to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance accessibility to important agricultural regions, including the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York Peninsula, and Mossman. These infrastructure enhancements are expected to stimulate economic growth and provide better transportation options for the community.
