In March 2017, the Australian and Queensland Governments, along with the Townsville City Council, appointed an intergovernmental task force to investigate short, medium, and long-term solutions to water security for Townsville. This included considering investments in water supply infrastructure and the management of demand.
The Haughton Pipeline Project consists of two stages: Stage 1 is the Haughton Pipeline Duplication Project (HPDP), linking the Burdekin Haughton Water Supply Scheme to the Ross River Dam from the Upper Haughton to Toonpan. Stage 2 is designed to extend the duplication from the Haughton Channel through 30 km of bushland to the Burdekin River.
Lackon provided Technical Engineering, Bid, and Project Management services to deliver the project. When complete, the HPP will enhance the capacity to supply raw water to the Ross River Dam, augmenting or "topping up" water levels during periods of very low rainfall.
