Lackon was engaged by Mount Isa City Council (MICC) to provide project management services for the significant upgrade of the popular Lookout, which had aged and no longer offered an appealing experience for visitors. Lackon’s responsibilities included developing project business cases, conducting feasibility studies, budgeting, planning, designing, and procuring, as well as managing construction, contracts, and the final commissioning and handover of the project. Additionally, Lackon handled state and federal funding applications, reporting, and the coordination of the capital works programme.
Inspired by the stunning landscape surrounding Mount Isa, the upgrade incorporated extensive community consultation to develop a range of exciting improvements. These included a new compliant ramp between the water tank and telecoms tower, 30 car parking spaces (including 3 disabled parking spots), food van parking, north-, south-, east-, and west-facing lookouts, picnic lawn areas, new furnishings, shelters, and urban design elements. Further enhancements included stairs to a new carpark at the base of the lookout, exercise loops, and a widened footpath along the east side of Lookout Road.
