Replacement of Yatala Fishing Platform

Gold Coast, QLD

May 2024 - Ongoing

Confidential

City of Gold Coast QLD

The City of Gold Coast (City) owns or manages a number of public fishing facilities across the City. The Yatala Fishing Platform is located within the Albert River Parklands. The fishing platform was damaged by flood waters that impacted the Gold Coast in February 2022. The flood waters eroded the riverbank and undermined the concrete edge / foundation beam which had cracked and dropped by approximately 250mm at one end. This beam failure rendered the platform unusable.

Due to a significant public safety risk the damaged fishing platform has been mostly demolished. Replacement of the entire platform including piles and generally within the same footprint as the previous platform is required to return the level of service to the Community. The piles, substructure and decking are to be replaced with Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) materials, or Superintendent approved equivalent material.

Lackon acted as Superintendent's Representative for Council to deliver this project.
